Recently crowned “Best New Band in the World”, the Korean idol group 2NE1 received an overwhelmingly positive response at MTV IGGY’s Best New Band in the World Concert, which was held this past Monday, December 12th, at the Best Buy Theater in New York City.
Selected by international fans through an online poll hosted by the newest faction of MTV, MTV Iggy, 2NE1 was honorably invited to join the ranks of famed artists such as Madonna, Brittney Spears, The Backstreet Boys, and Lady Gaga as they stood on the Times Square concert stage to receive their award.
2000 lucky fans were selected to witness 2NE1’s momentous first US performance at the Best Buy Theater, in which, following such popular acts as La Vida Boheme, Yuna, and Gyptian, the four idols performed such hits as “Fire”, “Can’t Nobody”, “Lonely”, and “I Am the Best”.
Following their debut American performance, 2NE1 expressed their feelings regarding the strong response of the audience, “When we saw a large number of people cheering for us, we were really happy. It was an extremely pleasurable experience to share our songs with people of different languages.”
2NE1 is currently promoting their Japanese single, “Go Away”, and is set to release their debut English album, produced by Will.I.Am of the Black Eyed Peas, sometime next year.
